Ten North Florida poker players have earned their way to Las Vegas and a chance to compete for the World Series of Poker’s (WSOP) multi-million dollar grand prize. Each of the players won a $10,000 entry fee plus $2,000 cash at one of the “satellite tournaments” held at the Poker Rooms at Orange Park Kennel Club and St. Johns Greyhound Park. The players will represent North Florida as “Team Jax” and will wear The Poker Room logo during play.
“Team Jax 2010” consists of Jacksonville’s Thomas Anson, Jr., Roy Vazquez, Jr, Mark Marcellus, Lee Bradley, Donald Vann and Geoffrey Dombrowski. Also heading to Vegas are Roger Stewart, Sanford; Mathew Paulson, Gainesville; Richard Swain, Waverly, GA and Edie Hayes, Fleming Island. In the 2009 WSOP, Roy Vazquez, Jr. finished 118th and won more than $40,000.
The team will be introduced at the Orange Park Kennel Club and Poker Room on Friday, June 25, at 1 p.m.
The World Series of Poker is the largest, richest and most prestigious gaming event in the world. It features a comprehensive slate of tournaments in every major poker variation. The live action begins May 27 and continues through July 17. The famous “Final Table,” featuring nine finalists, will be held November 6-9. Last year’s event attracted nearly 70,000 entrants from 115 countries and awarded over $174 million in prize money. |
